Read our interview with Shmuel Ashkenasi discussing his thoughts on chamber music.
Audiences and musicians were very appreciative after Shmuel’s last ChamberStudio Masterclass in March 2014, in which he coached the Wu Quartet, the Heath Quartet and the Busch Ensemble. The Heath Quartet wrote: “Having met Shmuel Ashkenasi on previous courses we knew that we would have a demanding session. His knowledge of the nuts and bolts of quartet playing (and violin technique in particular) served to bring us back to the basics of what we were doing and why. The fundamentals are always there and always need to be engaged with no matter what level you are playing at, and Shmuel made us acutely aware of the fundamentals we had been neglecting. He also has such a warm and positive attitude, always encouraging empathy and patience within the group. Enough food for thought to last us a long time!”
