Donald Grant

Donald is our vibrant Artistic Director. A gifted violinist, fiddle player, and composer, whose journey began in the rich folk traditions of the Scottish Highlands, he has always taken a fearless approach to music, confidently defying genres.

In 1998, Donald founded the Elias String Quartet, one of Europe’s leading ensembles. They have toured extensively, regularly performing in the world’s finest concert halls, and have built an acclaimed catalogue, including the Complete Beethoven Quartets for Wigmore Hall’s “Live” label.

Donald also writes and arranges music for himself and others, and he can be heard on his solo album “The Way Home.” He previously served as Deputy Head of Chamber Music at the RNCM, reflecting his longstanding commitment to nurturing emerging talent.
