Steven Isserlis discusses some recordings of Bach's Cello suites, touching on matters of interpretation including approach to the baroque style, choice of articulations and feeling for dance-forms.  The discussion panel will be made up of ChamberStudio musicians (past and current), but everyone is welcome to join the online audience where you will be given the opportunity to submit questions.

We’ll start the discussion by listening to the following recordings of non-cello Bach (click to listen):

• Harold Samuel | Bach Partita No 2 in C minor


• Thibaud / Jannopolou |Bach (arr. Schumann) Gavotte and Rondo from Violin Partita No 3


• Sir András Schiff | Prelude and Fugue in Bb minor (WTK, Book 1, No 22)

We’ll then listen to two contrasting recordings of the Courante from the Second Suite:

• Anner Bylsma

• Pierre Fournier

And finally, a ‘blind’ selection of recordings for spontaneous response and discussion.
