Residencies

An Immersive Retreat for Your Ensemble

Step away from everyday distractions and immerse your ensemble in a three-day retreat designed to revitalise your creative spark and level-up your musical practice. Our Residencies offer an oasis for focused, intensive coaching and rehearsal in a peaceful country setting and are the perfect starting point for professional groups joining Chamber Studio for the first time.

Over three days (two nights), you’ll receive 10 hours of personalised coaching from two mentors through four 2.5-hour sessions: one on the first evening, two on the middle day, and one on the final morning. Residencies typically end with an informal public concert, giving audiences a chance to share in your journey.

Residencies are ideal for professional ensembles and fellowship holders. These courses are the perfect starting point for professional groups joining Chamber Studio for the first time, offering a superlative chance to get to know Donald Grant, our Artistic Director. We welcome applications from ensembles of all instrument combinations, and our flexible format can be tailored to your unique needs.

Mentors are usually selected in consultation with our Artistic Director, Donald Grant, from our roster of world-class musicians.

  • £400 per ensemble for four 2.5-hour sessions (at £40 per hour)
  • £50 per player for accommodation and food
(Travel must be arranged and paid for by your ensemble.)
  • New Applicants: Start with an online consultation with our Artistic Director, Donald Grant. You may be asked to submit video materials.
  • Returning Ensembles: If you’ve participated in a recent Residency or Mentorship, discuss your next steps with Donald Grant. If it’s been over a year or your ensemble has changed, you’ll start with a fresh consultation.
