Online Discussion: Susan Tomes | How the Post-Virus Concert World Might Look

Coronavirus has made us all feel anxious - not only about our immediate loss of work, but also about how and when concerts will be able to resume. Social distancing and new hygiene measures will be difficult to achieve in the traditional concert hall. Audiences may be reluctant to return to concert venues for a while. Most musicians don't enjoy the prospect of all their activities moving to Zoom or Skype.

In the present crisis, some musicians have the financial backing of orchestras or teaching institutions, but many chamber musicians are on their own. How do you see the future?  Is chamber music going to be in a strong position after all this? Do you have ideas for how live music might be brought to post-Covid audiences?

It would be nice to feel that people could speak freely in this discussion, so it is open only to ChamberStudio participants. Before you join the discussion, please take a moment to read the blog post I wrote for ChamberStudio on the subject. I've tried to give a range of topics we might discuss.
